BILL BAUER works in numerous styles from traditional stoneware to Raku pieces. Bill conveys messages of emotion and faith in his “Praise the Lord” pottery series. A skilled potter and educator residing in Victoria, Bill currently exhibits locally at the Rockport Center for the Arts. JILL BECQUET, Best of Show Bountiful Bowl Pottery Fair 2007, creates pottery using hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques in her San Antonio studio. Jill markets her pottery at shows throughout Texas where she is known for her Japanese Sumi-E brush painting on porcelain or white stoneware pieces. Jill’s southwest landscape pottery series is inspired by her Arizona sojourn. FRANK & SUZY BIRD specialize in high-fire functional stoneware with a whimsical twist. The clay is fired to stoneware temps after glazing and then occasionally overlaid with gold at lower temps. The ultimate creation is a combination of well-formed, excellently decorated functional pots. MARILYN BOLING enjoys expressing herself in largely hand-built pieces incorporating fabric. Owner of Wall Designs, Plus in New Braunfels, Marilyn has participated in the Bountiful Bowl since its inception. RONALD BOLING, First Prize Winner Bountiful Bowl Pottery Fair 2006, is Art Gallery Director for the Division of Visual Arts at the University of Texas, San Antonio. Ron’s works have been showcased throughout the United States. He currently has pieces featured at The Rockport Center for the Arts. EMILY BROWN is a graduate of UT in Fine Arts. In 2007 she launched Litte e Pottery from her home studio in Austin where she is a full-time potter. Emily’s philosophy that pottery “delivers nourishment and is the center of hearth and home” makes her work a perfect fit for the Bountiful Bowl. www.littleepottery.com LYNN DICKEY achieves personal expression in her pottery through various surface treatments, glazes, firing methods and refinements of form. Her work finds its roots in ancient traditions of the Chinese, Japanese, African and Native American cultures. Lynn exhibits at the Art Gallery at Latitudes and sells by appointment from her studio in Corpus Christi. BARBARA FRANCIS a Waco potter, finds textures in leaves, laces and old dishes as well as doing her own hand carving and sprigging. Barbara teaches classes for children and adults in her home studio. CINDY FUQUA is a potter from Alba. The graceful forms and flowing lines of her works make her functional and decorative pottery a favorite of art lovers. Cindy imbues her pottery with a positive life energy that charges its surroundings. WALT & CYNTHIA GLASS Second Place Winner Bountiful Bowl 2009 have been crafting quality high-fired Stoneware & Porcelain pottery for almost 40 years at their Lake McQueeney studio. Their work is shown in their Village Gallery in downtown San Antonio 210-226-0404. MIKE GRAFA lives in Austin where he works at his studio and teaches at Austin Community College. Mike’s work has been exhibited throughout the southwest in galleries and art shows. This is his second exhibit at The Bountiful Bowl Pottery Fair. GEORGE & LORRAINE HAMILTON have been working and playing with pottery for the last 7 years at their home and studio on Padre Island. Trained by teachers at local art centers, they are versed in both the wheel and hand-building techniques. Currently they are exhibiting their work at Popo’s Studio and Gallery in Rockport. FRASER HARRIS has been intrigued by clay his entire life. With degrees from Southwest Texas and New Mexico Highlands University, Fraser teaches and has a studio in downtown Buda, Texas. His works are renown for their depiction of humor. KAYE HASS Best of Show Bountiful Bowl 2008 is a self-taught ceramic artist and teacher living in Corpus Christi specializing in figurative sculpture and hand-built vessels. With over 10 years experience, Kaye creates mainly one-of-a-kind pieces expressing the human condition in her tall figures. SHEILA HEDEMAN a retired teacher from Michigan now living here in Rockport particularly likes texture and collage and is inspired by her garden and the local birds. Her works are displayed locally at the Art Gallery at Latitude 28 02. TAYLOR HENDRIX has been throwing functional and non-functional pots since 2002 when he was taught to use the wheel by a good friend in Waco. A Rockport area potter, Taylor is known for his pit-firing techniques. TOM HICKS relocated to Lubbock in 2005 where he creates his clay pieces at the Artary and paints and glazes them at his home. An accomplished painter, Tom ventured into pottery in 1998 and has enjoyed working in this media ever since. BILL HILDEBRAND is a regional ceramics instructor who lives in Rockport. Bill is experienced in the techniques of slip casting, wheel throwing, hand building, stoneware, kiln building and raku. Bill exhibits at the Port Aransas Art Center and the Rockport Center for the Arts where he also teaches classes from time to time. Bill was instrumental in initiating the Bountiful Bowl Pottery Fair and is a mainstay of the event. JASON HOOPER a tech transplant to Austin from England he works in his home studio creating wheel thrown stoneware pottery that is functional and decorative. Jason was one of our judges last year when he was the featured potter at the Rockport Center for the Arts during Clay Expo 2009. 5 years into his craft, Jason’s work has simple lines and gently curved surfaces often enhanced with tri-footed bases. www.jjhooper.com LEAH LEACH using her own clay recipe and mixing her own glazes hand-throws functional stoneware and porcelain on the wheel at her studio in Alvarado Texas. Bobbie creates her functional and Raku pottery at North Shore Pottery and Glass, the studio that she owns and operates in Lake Travis. She uses high fire stoneware and porcelain clays with glazes formulated from raw materials. WENDY MAUER creates clay sculptures inspired by nature. Wendy is the 2008 1st Place Winner in the South Texas Sculpture Society show. Wendy exhibits her works locally at the Art Gallery at Latitudes, Mathew’s Gallery in Aransas Pass and The Art Center of Corpus Christi. PATIMA MEZA has over 35 years of experience in pottery. She has two different styles. Patima’s Stoneware-Fantasy Fish are brilliantly colored and carved from clay rolled out into sheets. Her Southwestern Line is wheel-thrown using terra cotta clay. AMBER MILLER throws and hand builds pieces inspired by plants, flowers and her love of horses. Functional as well as decorative her pieces reflect motion, bright colors & texture. Genie owns Pottery by Genie and her works are displayed at the Art Gallery at Latitudes and at The Rockport Center for the Arts. Her latest pieces are vases that combine hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques to create a unique surface using red earthenware clay. PATTY RIOS is a functional potter from San Antonio, Texas now residing in Rockport. Her love of the water, wind and sand is reflected in her down to earth pottery pieces that speak to the soul. Patty is displaying her wares with Sheila Hedeman. JIM BOB SALAZAR Best of Show Bountiful Bowl Pottery Fair 2009 is a tenured Professor of Art at Sul Ross State University, Alpine where he has taught for over 11 years. His works reflect commercial training merged with styles of Frank Lloyd Wright and oriental packaging. Jim Bob is the recipient off many impressive awards from prestigious shows throughout the U.S. His pieces are sold locally at The Rockport Center for the Arts or visit him on-line at www.cone10potter.com TONY & GRETCHEN SCHARTZ live and create pottery in their home and studio on the edge of the Palo Duro Canyon. They exhibit their Raku pieces in juried and invitational art shows across the country and find inspiration for their original Mandala designs in many cultures. ANN SCIBA is a full-time craftsperson residing in Wharton where she fashions Stoneware Pottery by Ann Sciba. Clay has been the focus of her life since 1967. Ann has worked extensively with clay in both industrial and educational settings polishing her skills in Arkansas, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas. A well-known and admired veteran potter with more than 40 years experience, Betty ‘s pieces are featured in several local galleries and the Rockport Center for the Arts. PAIGE ADKINS SHELTON, a native Texan, received a degree in fine art with a specialty in studio art from UT Austin studying pottery making with Ishmael Soto and Hank Cabanis. She has worked and taught throughout the area and enjoys selling her work in a few selected shops and art shows. Paige and her husband, Ray, live in Smithville where they have built a car kiln. ED TAYLOR produces his classically shaped pottery at his studio in San Marcos, Texas. Ed’s pieces are thrown from Raku clay and glazed with copper matte glaze before firing to 1700 degrees fahrenheit before being smoked at 700 degrees. This unique firing process distinguishes Ed’s work from those of his counterparts. PAUL UHL has created an eclectic style of his own from his past experiences and his daily life. His works are influenced by the orient and the southwest and are wheel-thrown or slab built. He considers his work decorative first and functional second. His tea vessels and large wall platters are visual treats.
